Hospital & Clinical Cleaning
Poor hygiene in healthcare establishments such as hospitals, dentists, and GP surgeries, can put people’s lives at risk. Infection control is critical as Infections can spread rapidly throughout these areas with devastating consequences to people lives.
The Health Act 2006 code of practice clearly places the responsibility on NHS trusts to ensure that the local provision of cleaning services is adequately resourced and clearly defined through a strategic cleaning plan, which includes clear cleaning schedules and routines.
The ability to demonstrate how, and to what standard, areas are kept clean is a key principle of the code of practice.
As well as standard sanitising cleaning we also provide two types of specialised infection control systems that have previously been piloted in a number of UK Hospitals and have proved to be an affective decontamination procedure, as most healthcare professionals are aware there is strong evidence that contaminated environmental surfaces contribute to the transmission of pathogens in healthcare settings. As such, environmental decontamination has an important role to play in the prevention and control of healthcare associated infections.
The leading Hygiene Solutions are:
The Hydrogen Peroxide Vapour (HPV) system (also referred to as Fogging) - which uses micro-condensation to effect total elimination of pathogens, including endospore forming bacteria such as Clostridium difficile, from the inanimate environment.(12-13) It has been established that the closest proxy for "total elimination" is a full six-log reduction of spore-forming bacteria, usually in the form of biological indicators. This system woks via Bio-decontamination within a room or chamber is achieved by depositing an even layer of 'micro-condensation' of hydrogen peroxide vapour (HPV) over all surfaces. The term micro-condensation may be defined as a microscopic film of HPV, which being at a sub-micron level is invisible to the naked eye. The micro-condensation process ensures that the optimum conditions for biological inactivation are achieved.
The Ultraviolet Light system - which uses UV-C short wavelength light to penetrate and damage bacteria, including Clostridium difficile (C. diff), methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and Vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE), all of which are commonly referred to as 'superbugs' because they are highly resistant to traditional antibiotic treatments. This UV-C energy passes through the cell walls of bacteria, viruses and bacterial spores. Once the UV-C energy is inside the microorganism, it is absorbed by the DNA, RNA and proteins. Once the DNA is fused, the organism can no longer replicate and is therefore, no longer infectious. The technical term for this is deactivation.
Both the above specialised systems are proved to offer affective decontamination processes to either small rooms or to standard sized wards. This of particularly consideration after infected patients have been discharged. It reduces environmental contamination and the risk of patient cross infection as well as staff infections, thus delivering cost savings in many areas, including reduced cleaning times and extended bed occupancy. It also frees you your team from the uncertainty over how much manual cleaning is required to decontaminate an area.
Elite Cleaning Service therefore understands the challenges faced by healthcare organisations in order to sustain a safe and hygienic environment.
